REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Complementary to the development of hiking tourism, specific pilot projects in the fields of marketing of agricultural local products, development of facilities for refreshments, food and overnight stays at the pastures (katuns), development of view points and models of accessibility by public transport will give fresh impetus to the region.

 

 

 

 



Background

The natural surroundings of Bjelasica and Komovi present one of the most important resources for the development of sustainable tourism.
This asset of unique natural heritage and the commitment of the communes in the region to respect sustainable development criteria are a challenge for the regional development strategies.     

 

Objectives

  • Development and marketing of local products to generate additional income for the region
  • Development of rural areas and pastures including local resources for food supply
  • Better accessibility and “soft” mobility within the Bjelasica & Komovi region

 


Implementation

  • Drafting a traffic/mobility plan including accessibility, public transport, road network
  • To identify regional products with quality standard
  • To produce and promote these products nationwide.
  • To develop two pastures (Katun) as pilot projects for complementary offer to hiking tourists.
  • Documentation of stimulating know-how transfer process regarding ecological sustainable development.
  • Pilot project “vista point”

All results of the pilot projects can be transferred to other fields of regional development

 

Results achieved

  • Seventeen types of herbs, two varieties of honey filled in three sizes of jars, and a selection of handicraft articles available
  • Honey is of certified quality (honey) and concerning herbs and dried fruits the locations of processing and the respective producers are known - site inspections took place
  • Thirteen selling points for regional products in the region have been identified plus possible eleven selling points outside the region
  • First Initiative “Attract tourists to use public transport in the Bjelasica” started to improve mobility and accessibility of the municipalities and tourism destinations by public transport” by better information.
  • A first pilot leaflet for the main tourist resort Kolašin is available
  • Regional working group “Public Transport” started working
  • Launching the pilot project of improvement of the mountain road network Andrijevica – Berane – Kolašin
  • Project development for vista points
